Resilience' Lilly Pilly is a cultivar and does not occur naturally in the wild. However its parent species, Syzygium australe is native to Australia, commonly found in rainforests and moist, woodland areas along the eastern coastline, from Queensland down through New South Wales. | |
Leaf information: | Glossy, deep green leaves with coppery-orange new growth |
Preferred Soil: | Prefers well-drained, fertile soils but is adaptable to a range of soil types as long as they are well-draining |
As the name suggests this plant has a robust nature, offering excellent disease resistance, particularly against psyllids, which are a common pest for many Syzygium species. It has dense, glossy green foliage and coppery orange new growth, providing year-round visual interest. Also, a great choice for privacy screening or ornamental border due to its ability to form a tight and compact hedge.
Care Considerations: | Regular watering is important during the establishment period after which the plant becomes relatively drought-tolerant. To encourage dense growth and maintain the desired shape, it can be pruned regularly. A slow-release fertiliser can be applied in early spring to promote new growth and enhance the plant's natural resilience. |
