Why we love this plant!

Trumpet-shaped pink flowers with deep purple throats appear in flushes from spring through to summer, attracting bees and adding colour to vertical garden spaces. This fast-growing climber is ideal for softening fences, covering pergolas, or training up trellises. Well-suited to subtropical conditions, it performs reliably across South East Queensland and contributes to garden ecosystems by providing floral resources for pollinators and shelter for small creatures.

Care Considerations

Watering preferences:

  • Water regularly during establishment and dry spells. Once established, it’s moderately drought-tolerant.

Mulching preferences:

  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Fertilising preferences:

  • A balanced fertiliser can be applied in spring to promote healthy growth and flowering.

Pruning preferences:

  • A light prune after flowering can help maintain shape and encourage new blooms.

Good to Know:

  • Tubular flowers are visited by native bees and small nectar-feeding birds such as Eastern Spinebills.
