Why we love this plant!

Well-suited to South East Queensland’s warm climate, this variety of Gardenia produces large, creamy white flowers that support local pollinators, particularly native bees. It performs well in sheltered gardens where humidity levels are naturally higher, making it ideal for shaded courtyards and understorey planting. Blooming from late spring to early summer, it adds seasonal diversity to the garden when other species may not be flowering.

Care Considerations

Watering preferences:

  • Requires regular watering, especially in dry periods, to maintain consistent soil moisture.
  • Avoid waterlogging, as it can lead to root issues.

Mulching preferences:

  • Applying mulch may help retain soil moisture and keep roots cool.

Fertilising preferences:

  • An acidic fertiliser may help encourage blooming and healthy growth.

Pruning preferences:

  • Pruning after flowering may help maintain shape and promote denser growth.

Good to Know:

  • Prefers humid conditions and benefits from wind protection to prevent bud drop in South East Queensland.
