Why we love this plant!

A low-growing, trailing groundcover with striking silver foliage that spills gracefully over edges and containers. Its cascading habit makes it a good option for softening retaining walls, hanging baskets, or using as a drought-tolerant alternative to traditional groundcovers in full sun areas. Well-suited to the warmer conditions of South East Queensland, this plant requires minimal upkeep and adds texture and contrast to native or modern gardens. It also helps reduce weed growth and stabilise soils on banks or slopes.

Care Considerations

Watering preferences:

  • Water regularly to establish. Once established, it has good drought tolerance but will benefit from occasional watering during extended dry periods.

Mulching preferences:

  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weed growth, especially in warmer months.

Fertilising preferences:

  • A balanced fertiliser can be applied in spring to promote healthy growth.

Pruning preferences:

  • A light trim can help maintain a neat appearance and encourage denser growth.

Good to Know:

  • Ground cover provides microhabitats for native ants, ground beetles, and spiders, which contribute to natural pest control.
  • Creates shaded ground zones that can support native skinks and provide refuge for pollinators like blue-banded bees when resting close to the ground (indirect benefit).
