Why we love this plant!

Tall white flowers rise above large, glossy leaves to bring structure and seasonal interest to moist or coastal garden areas. Commonly found along waterlines and in subtropical landscapes, this hardy lily supports native wildlife by offering shelter for frogs and insects. A practical choice for rain gardens, water features, or areas prone to poor drainage, especially in South East Queensland, where it copes well with salt, humidity, and fluctuating moisture levels.

Care Considerations

Watering preferences:

  • Enjoys regular watering and moist conditions but tolerates short dry periods once established.

Mulching preferences:

  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Fertilising preferences:

  • A balanced fertiliser can be applied in spring to promote healthy growth and flowering.

Pruning preferences:

  • Remove spent flower stalks and damaged leaves to maintain a tidy appearance.

Good to Know:

  • Large, fragrant flowers attract native bees and moths; nectar may also attract Eastern Spinebills (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris) in wetter garden settings.
