The Camellia sasanqua, including the Shell Pink cultivar, is originally native to Japan and China. In its natural habitat, it thrives in the understory of woodlands and forests. | |
Leaf information: | Dark green, glossy leaves |
Preferred Soil: | Prefers well-drained slightly acidic soils |
Loved for its delicate pink flowers that add a soft, elegant touch to any garden, this variety of Camellia blooms profusely in the cooler months, providing a splash of colour while many other plants are dormant.
Care Considerations: | Prefers a spot with light shade but is protected from the hot afternoon sun. This plant would greatly benefit from the addition of mulch to keep roots cool and moist. Will require regular watering particularly during dry periods, but be careful not to overwater. A good trim after flowering will help to keep the plant looking tidy and encourage more flowers the following season. A slow release, low phosphorus fertiliser can be applied just prior to flowering. |
