Why we love this plant!

The Queensland Silver Wattle is a fast-growing, drought-tolerant native tree with silvery-grey foliage that provides year-round interest. Its bright yellow, ball-shaped flowers bloom in late winter to early spring, offering an important nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. This hardy species adapts well to various soil types and is excellent for erosion control and soil enrichment due to its nitrogen-fixing properties. Ideal for wildlife-friendly gardens, it provides shelter and food for native birds while adding texture and seasonal colour to landscapes across Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.

Care Considerations

Watering preferences:

  • Water regularly until established, then reduce frequency based on rainfall.

Mulching preferences:

  • Applying mulch around the base may help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Fertilising preferences:

  • A light application of native plant fertiliser during the growing season may support growth.

Pruning preferences:

  • Pruning after flowering may help maintain shape and encourage new growth.

Good to Know:

  • Can be short-lived and may self-seed in favourable conditions. Pruning may help extend its lifespan.
