The Camellia sasanqua, including the 'Setsugekka' cultivar, is originally native to Japan and China. In its natural habitat, it thrives in the understory of woodlands and forests. | |
Leaf information: | Dark green, glossy leaves |
Preferred Soil: | Prefers well-drained slightly acidic soils |
Its dense foliage offers privacy and its fragrant blooms are a magnet for pollinators. It's also a tough cookie in less-than-ideal soil.
Care Considerations: | Prefers a spot with light shade but is protected from the hot afternoon sun. This plant would greatly benefit from the addition of mulch to keep roots cool and moist. Will require regular watering particularly during dry periods, but be careful not to overwater. A good trim after flowering will kelp to keep the plant looking tidy and encourage more flowers the following season. A slow release, low phosphorus fertiliser can be applied just prior to flowering. |
