Grows naturally in NSW, north of Wyong, in scattered populations very close to the coast, extending to Fraser Island in Queensland. Found in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest, very close to the coast. | |

This unique understory plant provides a microclimate that sustains frogs and nests for leaf cutter fly. The fruit can be eaten, or used as a milder alternative to ginger in cooking. The leaves are also a great wrapping for cooking fish.
